An orthosis is a therapeutic prosthesis, something that is designed to re-organise or reshape a part of the body or its movement. More specifically the term orthotic is used to describe a very specialised insole. The type of orthotic I use is a soft modifiable orthotic. As your body gradually changes its natural alignment, the orthotic change to maintain a more stable weight bearing foot.
The aim of all treatment programmes is to achieve modification of muscle memory so that the orthotics will ultimately not be required. Posture and deportment will have been improved to the point that the body naturally maintains balance (controllable state of equilibrium).
